About Us:

The COOL Cooperative is a non-profit dedicated to Creating Outstanding Opportunities Locally for middle and high school students in the film industry. Founded in 2014, we educate, develop and celebrate the next generation of Louisiana Storytellers. Centralized in New Orleans, COOL provides technical training and mentorship that translates into critical skills needed for the workforce. We are currently seeking passionate and talented individuals to join our fellowship program in one of six specialized film disciplines.Position

Overview:

As Film Tech Fellow at the COOL Cooperative, you will be part of a dynamic team of six fellows, each specializing in a different film discipline. This fellowship is designed to provide emerging artists with professional development opportunities, mentorship, and a supportive environment to advance their craft. Fellows sign on to operate as a technical advisor and support staff for in-school teachers and cohort projects for their first year. The second year of the fellowship will be solely dedicated to producing a film, where the fellows will be department heads in their respective disciplines.Specialties:

  1. Camera Tech Fellow Focus: Cinematography Responsibilities: Collaborate on Fellowship film, build out camera kits for rentals, ensure students are properly trained on a camera before borrowing, maintain camera equipment

  2. Producer Fellow Focus: Production Coordination, distribution Responsibilities: Collaborate on Fellowship film, generate budgets for projects, reconcile budgets, promotion and festival submissions, manager project calendars, procure permits and insurance as needed, handle industry paperwork, network with local film productions

  3. Director Fellow Focus: Pre-production, manage the crew of an independent film Responsibilities: Provide a script and collaborate on the Fellowship film, create a pitch deck, create storyboards and marketing pitches for student filmed commercials

  4. Sound Tech Fellow Focus: Sound design, sound mixing Responsibilities: Collaborate on Fellowship film, build out sound kits for rentals, ensure students are properly trained on a sound equipment before borrowing, maintain sound equipment

  5. Grip and Electric Fellow Focus: Gaffing Responsibilities: Collaborate on Fellowship film, build out Grip & Electric carts for rentals, ensure students are properly trained before borrowing, maintain Grip & Electric equipment

  6. Post Fellow Focus: Graphic Design, Davinci Resolve Responsibilities: Collaborate on Fellowship film, file management, edit shorts, maintain archival footage

Key Responsibilities for all Fellows: It is our goal that our fellows develop in their craft and impart wisdom and mentorship to younger, developing, filmmakers. 

  • Student Development: Intro Tech Teacher (3hrs), Assistant teacher (20hrs), Tech for pod projects (25hrs) Lead Camp Teacher (132hrs).

  • Community Engagement: Assistant teacher for Workshops (12hrs), Visiting Tech teacher (dependent on schools that sign up)

  • Collaboration: Work closely with fellow artists and staff to foster a collaborative environment and contribute to collective projects.

  • Professional Growth: Attend mentorship sessions, professional development workshops, and networking events to enhance your career prospects.

  • Fellowship Film: Collaborate with fellows to produce a film, run a department, and supervise Production Assistant’s.

Qualifications:

  • Age: Minimum age 20

  • Residence: Permanent address within the state of Louisiana

  • Experience: 1- 2 years of onset experience, student films apply 

  • Skills: Demonstrated proficiency and experience in your specialty.

  • Passion: A genuine enthusiasm for your art form and a desire to contribute to the local film industry

Compensation:

  • Stipend: $2000 paid quarterly, $800/wk for Summer Camp, and hourly opportunities
